When do you need to buy new tires?

Deciding if you need tire repair or new tires can be a challenge. Check you tires at least monthly to look for anything that may make your tires unsafe. If your tires are flat from a cut a nail or other road hazard, there may be a chance they can be fixed.

Chances for repair are higher when:

  • You have not driven on the damaged tire while it is flat.
  • Any damage shows up on the tread portion of the tire (the area that interacts with the
    road)
  • If the cut or puncture is not more than a 1⁄4 inch.

If your tire displays any of these conditions, contact the tire center right away. They can let you know whether your tire can be fixed or should be replaced. Keep in mind, worn tires are not just dangerous to drive on; they are illegal. Lawfully the base tire tread depth is 2/32 inch. In wet conditions 4/32 or less tread can mean a high chance of loss of traction or hydroplaning which is dangerous for you and other motorists on the road.
